A Luv Story Born in Candy Land

Our ‘how we met’ story…

A friend invited me to an amateur stand-up comedy show

at a local pizza locale.

I was hesitant,

as it seemed like a strange way to spend an evening.

I got there a little late,

just as this handsome comedian was taking the stage.

He began with jokes about teachers,

which really resonated with me being one.

Then when he made a joke about the old board game Candy Land,

I said out loud that I loved that game!

He heard me, looked directly at me, and said

well then, we should play sometime!

He then went on and finished his set,

and that was really the last interaction we had that night.

 As it turned out,

my friend was dating his best friend at the time,

and he had asked about me immediately after he got offstage.

Later that week he asked his friend for my number and called me.

Not texted, but actually called to set up a date!

Not something many younger guys do these days.

When it came time to set up our date not long later,

a major snowstorm was heading our way.

It began to hit the day we had planned to meet, at my house

where we were going to play board games

(Candy Land of course! and Chutes and Ladders) and cook dinner.

The storm, however,

was supposed to be more snow than we had seen in years

and we were both apprehensive about getting snowed in.

Nothing is worse than being stuck with a person you just met

who turns out to be a creep! (lol)

We decided it was worth the risk, and well,

he barely beat the snow,

arriving just before we got several feet of snow.

Luckily for us,

we hit it off immediately,

laughing and playing games all night and enjoying our cozy date,

that lasted 5 whole days!

We have been inseparable ever since!

That was about 5 years ago

and since the glue that really has kept us together has been laughter.

We both have the same witty and dry sense of humor.

Luv Story Update! – –  INSERT BABY PIX!

Well, today on this day is the 6 year anniversary of when we first met.

We tried for 2 and a half years to have a baby before we got married

and could not.

After many infertility treatments we took a break as it became too difficult.

We decided to take the summer off and officially tie the knot.

Well guess what happened 2 months after we got married?

Baby K happened!

She is the absolute joy of our lives.

A year and a half in “officially” married and we couldn’t be happier.

You are welcome to include any pictures, our names, and any information you’d like

We are so appreciative of you and your family making it the absolute best experience for us. And the pictures made our family who couldn’t be there feel like they were.

We hope you are doing well!

The Start of 2020

Our business was doing great, but we still couldn’t afford to buy a house or a condo. Renting in Maui for another 30 years was not an option we wanted to take. Then, Bobbie Jo suggested we buy a sailboat that is comfortable to cruise and live in. By the end of January, we started looking for our new home.

After a long search, we found our dream boat in Mazatlan, Mexico. COVID-19 was not yet a concern when our boat hunt began, but masks were starting to appear at airports by the time we flew to Mazatlan. Originally, we had planned to get the boat ready as fast as possible to cover a full calendar for the busy wedding season. However, it was apparent our business was going to tank amid the pandemic, and the struggle went on until the end of the year.

Luckily, we scored an awesome condo for only $19 a day at Mazatlan. On the 10th day of our stay, we received the news that all harbors will be closed the next Monday morning. We thought we’d be stuck in Mexico longer, but another sailor advised us to leave before sunrise.

We felt the adrenalin of escaping the Mexican harbor master just before the sun rose that faithful day. The seas were rough as waves were building up in the tight channel that led us to the open ocean. We ended up anchored off an adorable little isle just a mile offshore. We enjoyed cruising to many spectacular anchorages and cute villages on our way to Puerto Vallarta, where we would depart for Maui on May 7. On May 30, 2020, we completed our 24-day passage from Mexico to Maui.
