We met working together in Lynwood in 1989.
Our first date wasn’t with each other…
it was a double date;
she was with her then boyfriend and I was with my then girlfriend.
We established a good friendship and circled around each other for a while
before she announced that she was moving back home to eastern Washington.
I had to make my move,
so when she said she needed some work done on her truck before she moved,
I told her I would fix her truck if she made me dinner.
She didn’t see it as a date,
so I had to be pretty bold,
for a kid…
(she was 32 and had a 4 year old daughter and I was 22).
It turned out to be the best date either of us had ever experienced
and before the night was over…
we were talking about the future.
She moved to Brewster, WA,
and I came over every weekend until I moved over several months later.
We bought a small farm, had two more kids,
built a log home and farmed cherries.
Our kids are grown now, one in Brewster,
one in California and one in Grad School in Spokane.
We love to travel and come to Hawaii every two years.
We have been going to Europe every year or two and last month,
for my birthday,
she got me a month in Scotland next spring.
We are best friends, and rarely spend a night away from each other.
She is getting suspicious, so I’ll leave it at that for now
