A Marathon Luv Story that Goes the Distance

Sarah and I met in vet school. We were opposites.
She was quiet and hard working.
She stayed to herself and kept her education as a primary focus.
I met Sarah and was on the other end.
I drove a motorcycle and liked to have fun.
We bumped heads many times in class but didn’t connect till
we went on a date to a Christmas party.
From that date on we never separated.
We graduated vet school in 1998 and starting working.
We worked very hard for all we had.

We got married 9/11/99.
We were married in Charlotte Nc where Sarah grew up.
We moved near Charlotte in 2000 when our first child was born,
Emma grace. We had 2 more kids, Jackson in 2003 and Ava Kate in 2005.

In 2005 we made the leap and opened our own veterinary hospital.
We did this so we could job share,
and someone always be with our kids.
In 2009 we went to NYC to renew our vows.
Now 20 years later we are coming back to Maui
where we honeymooned in 1999.
We had no money and used wedding gifts and airline miles from Family
to make a honeymoon.
So we wanted to come back and show the kids where it all started.

Sarah is an amazing person.
She is devoted (de ores) to her family no matter what it takes.
She says routinely
“I love you on your good days and I love you on your bad days”.
She means it. We have had our share of peaks and valleys.

Sarah is 10 years clean from cervical cancer.
We have built a great business together, but it has taken a lot out of us.
We are both givers so it’s hard not to be there for clients and their animals.

We have both found incredible joy in being adult athletes.
This year will be our 9th consecutive Boston marathon.
We have run more than 50 marathons.
We have competed in Ironman triathlons and
have run every distance from a 5k to a 50k.

We love the beach.
We both would trade anything to be at the beach.
We travel to the coast where we have a home
and the kids live at the coast for the summer.
We love to fish and have been around the world
and usually totally off the grid to catch amazing one of a kind fish.

Our kids are number on in our lives.
They are why we work and all we live for.

I married Sarah because
I thought she was the most beautiful thing there was.
I never imagined she would get more beautiful every year of our marriage.
20 years seems like a blink of the eye.
We have an 18,15,14-year-old.
It’s amazing is gone so fast.
I couldn’t ask for someone more devoted, more beautiful and more
passionate about her family.

A Marathon Luv Story Blessing that Goes the Distance

“Run Run Runaround they run around – Ooohhohh😉… a lot”
:-O
With over 1300 miles of marathons and a lifetime of training helps create
A Luv Strong enough to take it all in stride and go the distance.
Long may you Run!

When they first met at vet school, they were opposites,
even bumped head many times in class.
It seemed unlikely they would ‘bump into each other’ after class.
But the miracle at that first Christmas party
soon manifested the Grace of Inseparable Unconditional Love.

The fully radiant expression of ‘Unconditional Love’
has the power of transcending all the challenges man has ever created.
Easy to pronounce, yet seeming hard to fully embrace by all…
Yet Sarah knows this intrinsically by her expression:
“I love you on your good days and I love you on your bad days”.
She means it and feels it from her Heart…
and Mark feels it…
And by the spontaneous radiance of Love by example…
So does Emma Grace, Jackson and Ava Kate.

To radiate this unconditional love to our family and friends
is our personal passion.
To radiate Loving Kindness to all other humans is
The True Nature of our Being.
To be of service to all the furry little sentient beings
Is a Noble Path of ‘Right Livelihood’.
All combined to pave the ‘Way’ for our Children’s Children…
So that they will perpetuate a sensible self-sustaining ‘Way’
for all to live intelligently
long before mankind attempts to try all other ways.

The Start of 2020

Our business was doing great, but we still couldn’t afford to buy a house or a condo. Renting in Maui for another 30 years was not an option we wanted to take. Then, Bobbie Jo suggested we buy a sailboat that is comfortable to cruise and live in. By the end of January, we started looking for our new home.

After a long search, we found our dream boat in Mazatlan, Mexico. COVID-19 was not yet a concern when our boat hunt began, but masks were starting to appear at airports by the time we flew to Mazatlan. Originally, we had planned to get the boat ready as fast as possible to cover a full calendar for the busy wedding season. However, it was apparent our business was going to tank amid the pandemic, and the struggle went on until the end of the year.

Luckily, we scored an awesome condo for only $19 a day at Mazatlan. On the 10th day of our stay, we received the news that all harbors will be closed the next Monday morning. We thought we’d be stuck in Mexico longer, but another sailor advised us to leave before sunrise.

We felt the adrenalin of escaping the Mexican harbor master just before the sun rose that faithful day. The seas were rough as waves were building up in the tight channel that led us to the open ocean. We ended up anchored off an adorable little isle just a mile offshore. We enjoyed cruising to many spectacular anchorages and cute villages on our way to Puerto Vallarta, where we would depart for Maui on May 7. On May 30, 2020, we completed our 24-day passage from Mexico to Maui.
