A Luv Story Based on a Passion for Aviation!

Our Luv Story together is based around our passion for aviation!

We both are followers of Christ!
Keeping everything fun (lots of laughter) and simple
(less is more) is our main thing
(We are the chilled type; we don’t believe in stressing!)
We will just roll with it,
should make for good times and
a more amazing life experience for all of us!

I’m a commercial pilot (my first solo was at 16 yrs old)
and she’s an air traffic controller at DFW airport
(former US Marine – that’s where she learned).
She states that she ā€œcontrols pilotsā€, however we all know that
ā€œpilots are in controlā€
that’s why it’s called PIC (Pilot in Command) …HaHa!!!
That’s how our conversation when we met got started
and still continues today!!! šŸ™‚

We met at a social event and quickly discovered that
we both ā€œspoke the same languageā€,
no explanations needed as with most conversations!
So that’s the short version on how it all got started!

We are both so excited and looking forward
to meeting you both very soon to get Maui’d !!!

The night we met must have been fate, because
neither one of us usually go out on the town due to our work life.

We met at a ā€œChic Happy Hourā€
(hundreds of ladies attend this once a month event
held at a different location each month) in Dallas at a restaurant.
I dropped by on my way home (it’s a 45 min commute) from my work,
since this place was practically the midpoint of my commute.
She was off work for a three-night weekend!!!
(She normally works 6 days per week-for the past 2+ yrs).
I work typically 70-80 hrs per week, in a 5-day period!

Diana said it was love at first sight for her and that I
caught her eye (it was the hair..LOL!)
the moment I walked in the door.
She said she saw me come through the back door
with my beautiful long light curly hair and wearing a business suit.

As I made my way to the bar to grab a drink,
I saw her staring and smiling at me,
she said she couldn’t take her eyes off of me.
As I walked around the place, talking to some friends of mine
I noticed she kept staring and smiling at me.

So then me and a couple ladies went back to the bar for another drink,
I noticed she was gone,
so we sat down near the spot she was sitting.
Then she returned,
and we all started talking, we found out that
we both had a passion for the field of aviation.
She told me she was an Air Traffic Controller, and I told her
I was a Commercial Pilot,
so we discovered that we both speak the same language.

For me it wasn’t love at first sight,
one of the ladies was talking to the group of us and ā€œmumbledā€
(she had had a few too many I suppose)
something that nobody understood what she had had said.
Diana quickly spoke up and said something like
ā€œWas that even English?ā€
I was like OMG (to myself), it’s about to get real up in here!!!
I figured that either there was going to be a big fight
or lots of laughter!

Diana is a very petite Mexican and the lady that mumbled
was a larger Mexican lady (larger than both of us),
so I was was like…Wow,
this girl has got a ā€œsetā€ to say that to her! LOL!
Well, there was a short pause, and
EVERYONE started laughing so hard!!! (Whew!!!)

It’s rare to find that kind of person (very direct) now a days,
so it seems.
Everything has gotten so PC for one reason or another.
So that’s when I discovered that she was different,
and that I wanted to learn more about her!
I greatly appreciate and admire that type quality in a person,
when a person has the courage to speak up so freely!
That’s when she caught my eye!

The ā€œglueā€ that made us stick,
that would be our love for the Lord and our love for each other.
Diana’s mother is VERY religious (I’ve not met her mother or her father
my parents have both passed-Mom 08/2016 & Dad 12/2017; she didn’t get a chance to meet mine).

The challenges we had to overcome that made our love stronger,
Diana’s mother being VERY religious pushed her away from it,
so when I told her in the beginning that I was ordained (since 2013),
she had a BIG freak out moment!-it almost ended it all! LOL!!! : )
I had to explained to her that I was Spiritual more so than a ā€œReligiousā€ person.

Soon after she understood the ā€œdifferenceā€ and warmed up to it,
then she was good with it.
We now both attend church Wed/Sun together,
listen to Christian music, attend Christian events
and pray before each meal is eaten!
We both put God first, and we come second!

Goals as a couple,
we are buying a (retirement) home on the beach in Pensacola Beach, FL!
Diana retires in 13 yrs with the FAA and I am pretty much semi-retired
with 30 yrs in the transportation industry.
In May 2018,
I will be launching a commercial financial brokerage business!
(I need something to do until she retires! ; ))

A Luv Story Blessing – Based on a Passion for Aviation!

Melissa flew into a relationship and Diana controlled the landing.
My pilot friend jokes about a few close calls, saying
ā€œany landing you can walk away from is a good landingā€.
With a match made in the heavenly skies,
there soon became no reason to walk away from a ā€˜landing’
of such a soul fulfilling love.

Diana is the wind beneath Melissa’s wings.
She is her confidante, advisor in times good and bad weather…
Spontaneously offering the appropriate times to land and take off.
So off together they fly into the endless horizons
that only True Love can offer.

In world of overblown PC-ness…
It is refreshing to meet someone that spontaneously says what is necessary
with an enchanting sense of courage and humor.

Often times the mythic literal dogma of old traditions
Throws off the modern rational person…
It’s very refreshing to one’s True Spirit to be ā€˜enlightened’
to the huge difference between ā€˜religion’…
and the depth of personal Spirituality.
For that,
you have ā€˜saved the Spiritual baby’
that otherwise would have been
thrown out with the old bath water and stigmatisms of ā€˜religion’
Thus,
allowing the most important fulfillment of our True Being.

For every soul created strives to be connected with
the Divine within themselves
The connection to the Christ Consciousness within each of us
truly fulfills our Soul.

The Start of 2020

Our business was doing great, but we still couldn’t afford to buy a house or a condo. Renting in Maui for another 30 years was not an option we wanted to take. Then, Bobbie Jo suggested we buy a sailboat that is comfortable to cruise and live in. By the end of January, we started looking for our new home.

After a long search, we found our dream boat in Mazatlan, Mexico. COVID-19 was not yet a concern when our boat hunt began, but masks were starting to appear at airports by the time we flew to Mazatlan. Originally, we had planned to get the boat ready as fast as possible to cover a full calendar for the busy wedding season. However, it was apparent our business was going to tank amid the pandemic, and the struggle went on until the end of the year.

Luckily, we scored an awesome condo for only $19 a day at Mazatlan. On the 10th day of our stay, we received the news that all harbors will be closed the next Monday morning. We thought we’d be stuck in Mexico longer, but another sailor advised us to leave before sunrise.

We felt the adrenalin of escaping the Mexican harbor master just before the sun rose that faithful day. The seas were rough as waves were building up in the tight channel that led us to the open ocean. We ended up anchored off an adorable little isle just a mile offshore. We enjoyed cruising to many spectacular anchorages and cute villages on our way to Puerto Vallarta, where we would depart for Maui on May 7. On May 30, 2020, we completed our 24-day passage from Mexico to Maui.
