A Luv Story Born on the Beach.

Our Love Story was

A Beach Romance Right from the beginning

They say it always happens when you least expect it.

In our case, neither one of us were looking for it

and had given up hope that true love only existed in

fairy tales or Hollywood romance movies.

I had countless relationships that never went anywhere,

and they were all missing something.

Christy had been married before for ten years to a very abusive man.

She did have two wonderful boys who were only 8 & 3 at the time.

We weren’t looking at all but the night we met had to be fate.

I had been working out of town for months and

just happen to be in town that night.

Some co-workers and I had decided to go to the bar at the hotel

they were staying at but it was really dead in there so

we decided to try Bojangles.

I had just started seeing this girl Michelle who was with us that night.

I went to the bar to get another drink and when i turned around

I noticed this really beautiful girl walking toward me and

I felt like she was looking right at me.

It was like we connected instantly

before we even spoke one word to each other!

Later on,

I was returning from the restroom and I noticed she was crying

and asked her what was wrong.

To make a long story short I boldly decided to kiss her and when I did …

It was like time stood still!!

It was literally just like the movies!!

The music stopped and everyone else around us just faded away!

The crazy thing was my girlfriend was right around the corner and

eventually I realized that and said I have to go.

The moment I said that,

and we weren’t kissing any more

it was like slowly the music faded back in

and everyone else around us started appearing again!

I didn’t even get her number that night,

but we eventually found each other again by the forces of nature.

My girlfriend at the time had found out we went out together one night,

and after numerous avoided calls and texts had rode to my house

to find Christy’s Dodge Durango sitting in the driveway with the keys in it.

This crazy girl decides to bash it with a steel pipe then got in it

and rammed it into an oak tree several times completely totaling it

after Christy had just made her first car payment!!

I told my friends at work I was done with girls

and was just going to party all the time and live the single life.

They all laughed and said me and Christy would be together in a week.

Turned out they were right!

I could not stop thinking about her

and felt so different and strong toward her

like i had never felt before!!

We went out the next weekend when I came back from out of town

and when we were together it felt like

no one else was around us like the moment

we had the first time we kissed.

I felt overwhelmed with emotion like I was going to explode!

I finally had to tell her I loved her and wanted to be together exclusively

and I was really freaked out a little because i didn’t think it was possible

to love someone so quick that we had only met like 2 weeks ago!

I told her to come out on the balcony that I needed to talk

and she thought I was going to tell her I didn’t want to see her anymore

and make her cry.

So,

when I told her how I felt she said she was so glad I told her that

because she was feeling the same thing but didn’t want to tell me first because

I would think she’s crazy!

After that night it’s like we were on a whole other level

and so connected spiritually like we had known each other our whole lives!

We would talk to each other and say the exact same thing at the same time

and then laugh about it together at the same time too.

It happened so much it kind of freaked us out a little.

We moved in together after only seeing each other for a month,

the boys embraced me with open arms,

we dated for a couple years.

Her favorite place to go escape would be the beach

and listen to the ocean waves crashing.

I had planned for a while to ask her to marry me

and decided there would be no better place than the beach!!

First,

I had to ask her sons, our sons, if I could marry their mom?

I showed them the ring and it was our secret.

They were so excited. I asked Aaron, our oldest,

to be my best man.

I wanted to surprise her when I asked her

and played it off like we were going to do a weekend getaway

to the beach since we had done that before in the past.

What I had envisioned in my head was we would walk on the beach

right close to the water and

she would see this beautiful shell in the sand and open it

and there would be her engagement ring and me on one knee

asking for her hand in marriage.

So I saved enough money and bought her the ring and started planning.

I went to our local oyster restaurant and talked to the manager

and told them what I was planning to do,

so they gave me 2 oyster shell haves and wished me good luck.

I cleaned them up the best i could and put the ring inside

and glued the shells together.

When we got to the beach I threw some trash in the trash

can so i could discretely slip the shell in my pocket.

I was a nervous wreck trying to figure out how this was going to play out

and when I reached in my pocket I felt the 2 shell halves had fallen apart

and I could not feel the ring in my pocket!

My heart instantly fell and all I could think was

I must have thrown it in the trash can by accident!

I was just about to start running for the trash can when I finally felt the ring

and then had to piece it all back together with one hand in my pocket

while trying to act normal!

So I said,

let’s sit down and watch the waves.

I set it out beside me and stood up and said whats that and pointed to it.

She ran behind me and said “I don’t know but I’m not touching it!!

So

I decided to pick it up and opened it and got on one knee

and I was so nervous

I was stuttering and asked her to marry me.

She said no you’re not!!

I guess she couldn’t believe I was asking her.

And she didn’t say anything for a minute

and I said is that a yes?

and she was like of course I will marry you!!

I thought you would never ask!!

So,

we started planning and decided to set the date six months later!

We originally thought about having a casual beach wedding

but decided to have a traditional church wedding

and her daddy to walk her down the aisle because

he did not do that with her first marriage.

She didn’t have a wedding;

she knew it was not her forever.

Our kids were by our sides,

with family & friends.

I have always been a firm believer in God

and putting him first in everything we do.

So I requested that my uncle Titus who is a very powerful man of God

to marry us and I had a lot of respect for this man!!

So,

we have been married almost ten years now

and they have really been the best years of our lives!!

We based our marriage on God and prayer and always doing things together

as a family and always talking things out without going to bed angry.

We have been through a lot of tough times financially and spiritually

and no matter how hard it gets we always come together

and figure things out and it brings us even closer!

Christy’s wonderful baby brother Robert decided to buy us both plane tickets

to come with him to Maui!

The experience we had while there was life changing!

Everything is so beautiful its like a dream you never want to wake up from!!

We both fell in love with the Aloha spirit

and the true meaning and way of life here!

We have 2 wonderful boys Aaron (20) and Kyle (15)

and 2 beautiful angels

that were both born in Gods arms Christian Makayla and Jadon Kai.

Christy had a very special connection with Makayla

when we were here last

and I have some amazing pix.

The Start of 2020

Our business was doing great, but we still couldn’t afford to buy a house or a condo. Renting in Maui for another 30 years was not an option we wanted to take. Then, Bobbie Jo suggested we buy a sailboat that is comfortable to cruise and live in. By the end of January, we started looking for our new home.

After a long search, we found our dream boat in Mazatlan, Mexico. COVID-19 was not yet a concern when our boat hunt began, but masks were starting to appear at airports by the time we flew to Mazatlan. Originally, we had planned to get the boat ready as fast as possible to cover a full calendar for the busy wedding season. However, it was apparent our business was going to tank amid the pandemic, and the struggle went on until the end of the year.

Luckily, we scored an awesome condo for only $19 a day at Mazatlan. On the 10th day of our stay, we received the news that all harbors will be closed the next Monday morning. We thought we’d be stuck in Mexico longer, but another sailor advised us to leave before sunrise.

We felt the adrenalin of escaping the Mexican harbor master just before the sun rose that faithful day. The seas were rough as waves were building up in the tight channel that led us to the open ocean. We ended up anchored off an adorable little isle just a mile offshore. We enjoyed cruising to many spectacular anchorages and cute villages on our way to Puerto Vallarta, where we would depart for Maui on May 7. On May 30, 2020, we completed our 24-day passage from Mexico to Maui.
