A Luv Story of Two Crazy Senior Kids in Love

DENNIS…….

I retired from California and moved to Durango, Colorado.
Karen and I met through a online dating site.
After reading each other’s profile we thought they were interesting …
enough to meet.

After some time, I asked Karen to move in with me but
when her son-in-law got transferred to Oregon,
I felt life without family here would cause her regret and misery.
Talking occasionally wasn’t enough and months later I invited her back
as I didn’t want to take a chance of losing her.

We’ve been together now for three years and have been happy ever since.
We get along great. We have similar likes and dislikes from music to sports.
We both enjoy travelling, hiking, fishing and importantly family times.
We plan on going to more ‘bucket list’ destinations and luxurious cruises.
I love her dearly and look forward to spending the rest of my life with her.

KAREN…

Originally from New York,
I retired in 2012 and moved to be nearer my daughters and their families.
Being divorced for years,
I looked forward to helping watch my grandkids,
volunteering and exploring the west.

I fell in love with Colorado,
but found after living the mountain life and babysitting,
meeting new people was not easy.
I missed my friends terribly.
By January 2014,
I caved to one friend’s advice and dabbled with online dating sites.
That proved to be an endless process of
reading boring profiles and take disappointing risks.

But that all changed one night when I perked up reading DJ’s profile.
It was an articulate, interesting with a humorous flowing description of himself –
attracting me to want to know more!
I sent him the first email commenting on a few common interests.
That step led to his response, phone calls and meeting.

Our first date was for dinner and I remember I was
immediately attracted to his smiling eyes and kind face.
He was confident, a great listener and our conversation was easy.
Both owning big dogs, we continued getting more acquainted
on long walks with them in the weeks that followed.

Another interest we shared was sports.
DJ is a Senior Softball National League player,
so our relationship grew as I attended tournaments with him all over the country.
And…
I got to make new friends – goal accomplished!

When my son-in-law got transferred to Oregon,
I followed with the family move.
DJ and I kept in touch as we waited for our lives to move on,
but ten months later DJ called and asked if I would move back.
It is now a year later and I cannot believe how good life is
and how committed we have become to each other.

One of DJ’s retirement goals was to one day meet his forever-after soulmate
and remarry.
That wasn’t one of my hopes or dreams,
but God works in mysterious ways!
Here we are now, two crazy senior kids in love,
heading to Paradise
to unite two hearts into one!
Looking forward to our future!

A Luv Story Blessing of Two Crazy Senior Kids in Love

Meeting online is a very wise way…
Consider how many countless eons & beers it would take,
To meet one’s perfect Soulmate in a bar
:-O

They say, If you love something…. Let it go,
if it comes back it was meant to be.
And so, it was… with a wee bit of a sidetrack to Oregon…
True love of Soulmates couldn’t stay apart.

After working forever and finally achieving
the life one has spent a lifetime dreaming of…
It would still feel like an empty space without
a True Love companion to share it with.

Karen came from the ‘other coast’ and Dennis came from the cally coast…
Meeting up had the advantage of both owning big dogs,
Dogs have a way of playing cupid…
They allow us to relax into our True Nature of Being…
Our hearts open and allow the embrace of love to come trotting right in
😉

Karen was waiting for ‘God’ to find a way to her Soulmate…
‘God’ does work in mysterious ways…
Perhaps it’s no coincidence that doG spelled backwards is…
Well… very Divine indeed.

The Start of 2020

Our business was doing great, but we still couldn’t afford to buy a house or a condo. Renting in Maui for another 30 years was not an option we wanted to take. Then, Bobbie Jo suggested we buy a sailboat that is comfortable to cruise and live in. By the end of January, we started looking for our new home.

After a long search, we found our dream boat in Mazatlan, Mexico. COVID-19 was not yet a concern when our boat hunt began, but masks were starting to appear at airports by the time we flew to Mazatlan. Originally, we had planned to get the boat ready as fast as possible to cover a full calendar for the busy wedding season. However, it was apparent our business was going to tank amid the pandemic, and the struggle went on until the end of the year.

Luckily, we scored an awesome condo for only $19 a day at Mazatlan. On the 10th day of our stay, we received the news that all harbors will be closed the next Monday morning. We thought we’d be stuck in Mexico longer, but another sailor advised us to leave before sunrise.

We felt the adrenalin of escaping the Mexican harbor master just before the sun rose that faithful day. The seas were rough as waves were building up in the tight channel that led us to the open ocean. We ended up anchored off an adorable little isle just a mile offshore. We enjoyed cruising to many spectacular anchorages and cute villages on our way to Puerto Vallarta, where we would depart for Maui on May 7. On May 30, 2020, we completed our 24-day passage from Mexico to Maui.
