A Luv Story that Beat All the Odds

We have compiled a list of “fun” facts about my parents.
We can’t make this stuff up.

In a twisted love triangle,
my dad had just broken up with his girlfriend.
Her mom, coincidentally my mom’s Aunt Ruth suggested that
my dad calls my mom to meet because she would be perfect for him.
At the time she was 16 and he was 19.
He called her from Aunt Ruth’s phone because it was a “local” call
and asked her to a movie.
During their courtship they enjoyed going to the movies and having pizza with
Tina, Sheila and the rest of their siblings.

After a short time Mark, 20 and Lois, 18 decided to marry.
On March 30, 1979, on the way to a tiny white church in Winchester, VA
with their 2 best friends,
they stopped to change into their wedding attire in a gas station bathroom.
Everyone was placing bets on how long the marriage would last.
After years of scrimping and saving,
they finally had a honeymoon for their 25th wedding anniversary
in Cancun, Mexico.
With the odds against them,
Mark and Lois are still winning after 40 ‘looong’ years.

A Luv Story Blessing that Beat All the Odds

The ‘kids’ compiled a list of ‘fun’ facts about your Luv Story…
A story so… against all odds, that they stated that,
‘We just can’t make this stuff up’
:-O
It began – “In a twisted love triangle”
when Mark had just broke up with who would become
his very last every girlfriend…
and soon fell in love with his Soulmate.
Cupid apparently enlisted the help of local call from Aunt Ruth’s place
to fulfill destiny…
As it was meant to be.

There is something about synchronicities that have a ‘Sacredness’ to them…
A feeling that so many random coincidences – had to happen
in order to manifest the union of True Love with Mark & Lois…
This feels like ‘Soulmates’…
It seems like something from within the ‘Ground of our Being’
Silently guides us towards these ‘against all odds’ – coincidences.

Perhaps there is ‘an order’ to the apparent chaos we are surrounded by.
Those that Transcend the chaos
do so by integrating the strengths of significant others.
The combined strengths of your marriage sends the message of Love
Radiating out like a Ripple on a pond,
building in ever expanding circles of Unconditional Love.

By your example of Unconditional Love will go forth forevermore
in the expressions of your Children’s, Children’s Children
Thus, making this world a better place for all Beings…
Unconditionally.

When anyone first gets married… it’s really like ‘Rollin’ the dice’.
Waaay back on March 30, 1979…
Bets were placed on how long the marriage would last.
Well, against all odds and the national statistics
After 40 Looooong years of Marital Bliss,
Mark & Lois are still Winning!

The Start of 2020

Our business was doing great, but we still couldn’t afford to buy a house or a condo. Renting in Maui for another 30 years was not an option we wanted to take. Then, Bobbie Jo suggested we buy a sailboat that is comfortable to cruise and live in. By the end of January, we started looking for our new home.

After a long search, we found our dream boat in Mazatlan, Mexico. COVID-19 was not yet a concern when our boat hunt began, but masks were starting to appear at airports by the time we flew to Mazatlan. Originally, we had planned to get the boat ready as fast as possible to cover a full calendar for the busy wedding season. However, it was apparent our business was going to tank amid the pandemic, and the struggle went on until the end of the year.

Luckily, we scored an awesome condo for only $19 a day at Mazatlan. On the 10th day of our stay, we received the news that all harbors will be closed the next Monday morning. We thought we’d be stuck in Mexico longer, but another sailor advised us to leave before sunrise.

We felt the adrenalin of escaping the Mexican harbor master just before the sun rose that faithful day. The seas were rough as waves were building up in the tight channel that led us to the open ocean. We ended up anchored off an adorable little isle just a mile offshore. We enjoyed cruising to many spectacular anchorages and cute villages on our way to Puerto Vallarta, where we would depart for Maui on May 7. On May 30, 2020, we completed our 24-day passage from Mexico to Maui.
