Christian Heaven or Buddhist Pure Land

HEAVEN ON EARTH
For some of us, our highest dream is to go to a heaven or,
if we are Buddhist, to a “Pure Land” after we die.
We believe this life is somehow insufficient and unsatisfactory
and that we can touch only the deepest,
most fulfilling level of existence
after we die.
We feel we need to shed this body in order to truly touch the ultimate.
We have a sense that there must be a better place, a happier,
more perfect place, somewhere else, later on.
But
if we wait until we die to expect happiness, it may be too late.
We can touch all the wonders of life, and the ultimate itself,
with our human body right here and now.
Your body is also a wonder.

It is another kind of flower in the garden of humanity,
and you should treat your body with the utmost respect because
it belongs to the Kingdom of God.
You can touch the Kingdom of God with your body.

One mindful in-breath is enough for us to suddenly notice
the bright blue sky,
the cool fresh air, the sound of the wind in the pine trees, or
the music of the running brook.

We don’t need to die to go to heaven.
We already are in the Kingdom of God.

In Christianity, the goal is to reach “Heaven”.

The goal of many common Buddhists is to

reincarnate into the “Pure Land”.

Both are naive projections of

the shallow end of ether perspective.

One can learn the deep philosophies of

the very deepest end of Spirituality…

Go deep enough,

one will experience the ‘effortless’ Insight meditation,

these are the highest states consciousness a human can experience.

It is in these states that wordless Wisdoms are gained.

This is where one learns by experience the True Nature of our Being.

Taken to its fullest fruition of Enlightenment,

no longer can anything in the materialistic world that our bodies live in

can affect our well-being.

Equanimity in all situations becomes our unwavering, unperturbable existence.

~

From the very first break through into these higher states of human consciousness,

no longer can the chaos of our material world dominate our well-being.

We are still challenged by the unexpected bumps in the road of life…

They no longer hold us hostage,

as we are now learning that ‘we’ have a sanctuary.

Once fully Enlightened,

one truly abides 24/7 in a flow of Equanimity,

that renders one at peace with all that flows our way.

This is the essence of what the Tao teaches.

Even from the very first break through,

there becomes the feeling that ‘We

are no longer separate from all that ‘is’…

And,

We feel ‘we’ are in the flow of Grace and abide in a knowing

that everything is as it should be…

no matter what comes ‘our’ way.

In fact,

from the very first step along a Path towards these higher goals…

With each step,

there is a calming Peace that begins to soften the harshness

of our worldly realities.

The deeper one treads on this Path…

The more it feels like, we are

Always Already Alright…

~

Heaven, Nirvana or the “Pure Land” is right here,

right now and inseparable from what we once referred to as ‘us’.

Nirvana was never actually a “Place” where  one goes to…

It’s simply a perspective of the ‘Right View’.

There is no longer an ‘us’ that suffers the ignorance of

not knowing our True Self.

There is only the Joy, Bliss, Raptures of Love…

The essence of our True Nature…

Inseparable from all that is.

We are like a water drop… seemingly individual with it’s parameter…

yet,

when the drop melts inseparably with the ocean of consciousness…

there it becomes obviously inseparable from… all that is.

The goal of a Spiritual Path is to simply recognize our true being …

like a drop of water no longer is mistaken to think itself as an individual drop…

In this life, our Practice becomes Self Enquiry”.

The fear of losing our identity as an individual drop is removed simply by realizing that

our true nature is the water. We were always already water….

The drop will neve die… it’s already… water.

We are Always Already Alright…

the only thing that suffers is the ego… and

we are not our egos, like the parameter of a drop

does not define the drop, the drop is water.

This is the deep end of the Path…

The Start of 2020

Our business was doing great, but we still couldn’t afford to buy a house or a condo. Renting in Maui for another 30 years was not an option we wanted to take. Then, Bobbie Jo suggested we buy a sailboat that is comfortable to cruise and live in. By the end of January, we started looking for our new home.

After a long search, we found our dream boat in Mazatlan, Mexico. COVID-19 was not yet a concern when our boat hunt began, but masks were starting to appear at airports by the time we flew to Mazatlan. Originally, we had planned to get the boat ready as fast as possible to cover a full calendar for the busy wedding season. However, it was apparent our business was going to tank amid the pandemic, and the struggle went on until the end of the year.

Luckily, we scored an awesome condo for only $19 a day at Mazatlan. On the 10th day of our stay, we received the news that all harbors will be closed the next Monday morning. We thought we’d be stuck in Mexico longer, but another sailor advised us to leave before sunrise.

We felt the adrenalin of escaping the Mexican harbor master just before the sun rose that faithful day. The seas were rough as waves were building up in the tight channel that led us to the open ocean. We ended up anchored off an adorable little isle just a mile offshore. We enjoyed cruising to many spectacular anchorages and cute villages on our way to Puerto Vallarta, where we would depart for Maui on May 7. On May 30, 2020, we completed our 24-day passage from Mexico to Maui.
