Long Strange Trip – Luv Story

Background of Shawn Sivly:

Shawn Sivly was born and raised in the small town of Rochester, Minnesota.

She is an identical twin and was born 3 days before Julian in September 1971

(Shawn was born September 4th and Julian was born September 7th).

Two Virgos being born 72 hours apart is pretty cool!

Shawn’s parents are amazing people,

and both her parents worked very hard to provide a stable and loving home for

all 4 of their children.

Both her parent’s worked in the medical field.

Shawn’s mother currently lives in Rochester, MN and

her Father passed away 5 years ago.

Shawn was raised to have a very hard work ethic.

Her and her sister both played basketball in high school, and

they won the state championship their senior year.

Both of them are very high achievers and have worked hard to

ensure they have a career in what they are passionate about.

Shawn has her Master’s degree in Social Work,

and has worked at an agency called ‘Friends of Youth’ for over 22 years.

Shawn is a strong advocate for homeless youth and youth in Foster Care.

She has received the CEO award and Legacy award for her dedication in working with youth.

Currently Shawn is the Associate Director of a foster care program that serves

immigrant and refugee youth as well as youth in state care.

Shawn has a passion for all kinds of music, especially 60s 70s and 80s rock.

Shawn and her sister were able to see Jerry Garcia and The Grateful Dead dozens of times before Jerry’s death and ultimate breakup of the band in 1995.

She loves the Grateful Dead, and has a “Steal Your Face” Tattoo on her left ankle

to show her love for the band.

Shawn is a caring person and is always there to help anyone out.

Shawn loves nature and loves to camp and hike.

Shawn also has love for animals, especially dogs and she has a 8 year old German Shepherd/Husky mix named Stella (named after a Grateful Dead song called Stella Blue).

BACKGROUND OF JULIAN TENNEY:

Julian Tenney was born and essentially raised in San Francisco.

Julian came from a very broken home and family growing up,

with many challenges.

Julian ended up finding his “family” by connecting with The Grateful Dead

and its loving community, which he adopted as his surrogate family.

Julian has seen the Grateful Dead 450-460 times over the years and

another 150 times seeing Jerry Garcia in other bands he fronted.

It was a wild and fun life, but Julian knew he needed to pull his life together

and make some serious advances and nail down a career that could pay the bills

and bring him personal and professional satisfaction.

In March/1995 Julian made a life changing decision and went to Israel

where he excelled in biblical studies and turned his life around.

Julian married his first wife who he met in Israel and has 3 beautiful children

(Aliyah 13, Matti 15, and Ellie 20).

Julian loves his children so much and would do anything for them.

Eventually Julian went to school and became a registered Nurse.

Julian has a big heart and a natural ability to connect with people.

His compassion in his work and caring for his patients has been recognized by several daisy awards. Julian has worked as a Nurse for 20 years and for the last 5 years has been working for Swedish Hospital. Currently, Julian is a Case Manager/Nurse in the ICU unit with a focus in Neurology and Cardiology. He loves his job and touches everyone he comes into contact with.

How Julian and Shawn met (October 16th, 2015):

Shawn and Julian met on Facebook through a mutual friend.

This person was experiencing a difficult situation and of course it was in both Julian and Shawn’s nature to try to help in any or some way.

It was in this discussion how they connected and how their friendship began.

Julian was very taken back by Shawn’s use of advice and words.

Her unbelievably huge heart in regard to helping others, interested Julian,

which spoke to him as he instantly felt a real connection with her.

In a very short time,

Julian eventually had the courage to ask Shawn out for dinner,

which she was hoping for.

They decided to meet in Renton at a local Mexican restaurant

and when they first met, Julian felt an instant connection with her.

Shawn did as well,

however it probably was not as intense as it was for Julian,

which made him love her even more deeply.

The conversation over dinner went well and after dinner they took each other’s hand

(Ok, Julian says I took his hand) and they went for a walk

ending up in front of an outside fireplace where they enjoyed more conversation

and their first kiss.

It was magical.

In December 2015, Julian asked Shawn to go to LA to see Dead and Company.

This would be their first vacation together,

which would show how compatible they are traveling together.

Well, the trip was really fun….

meeting up with old friends, meeting new friends, and

seeing some really great shows!

They even rented a car and took a road trip down to San Diego.

It was a blast!

On October 3rd, 2016, Julian surprised Shawn and proposed to her

right before a Neil Young concert in Boise, Idaho.

She of course said “yes”.

Julian gave her a black opal ring and it was a beautiful engagement ring.

Julian knew Neil Young’s Bass player and he was able to get Neil and the band

to play “Harvest Moon” for them that night!

They danced and twirled the night away together and

it was absolutely perfect.

After they returned from Boise,

they began to focus on the next big step in their relationship…

moving in together!

Due to Julian needing to finish his lease,

it would be another year until this could happen.

However,

this was a good period of time to continue to work on their relationship,

be open and honest with each other, and prepare for the move.

In 2008, Shawn and her sister SeAnn bought a house together in Burien, Washington.

To make the home more compatible for everyone, Shawn and her sister remodeled the downstairs and put in a kitchen and second living roomin ,

which would provide everyone enough space to live comfortably.

In August 2017, Julian moved in

and a whole new phase of their relationship began!

Living together is not easy!

It takes hard work, sacrifice and a lot of patience.

It takes a while to adjust to each other’s quirks, habits, routines, space, etc.

However,

Julian and Shawn really grew together as a couple…

they have overcome and risen to every occasion…

and continue together as a TEAM.

Their open and honest communication has been the key to their success,

and it seems like each day it just gets better and better.

They also have made some healthy life choices,

which will ensure they have as long as possible together.

After the summer in 2017,

Julian wanted to go on vacation in Hawaii.

Sounded like an awesome idea to get out of the Seattle rain

and head to somewhere tropical.

The idea to get married came a bit later yet the more we thought about it,

the more it came to light.

All we could think of is what a perfect way to celebrate our commitment to each other

and our union as husband and wife….

on a beach,

just the two of us and in the most beautiful place on earth!

After Christmas,

Shawn and Julian picked out a new setting for Shawn’s beautiful black opal

and also picked out a perfect ring for Julian that contains 12 little blue diamonds….

which leads us to here.

We are so stoked to get married.

We love each other so much and are ready for this union!

We are a power couple, we care for people, we help people,

we want to make the world a better place, we support one another,

we are best friends, we are soul mates, and

we are a TEAM!

She is truly an amazing woman.

“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,

the courage to change the things I can,

and the wisdom to know the difference”

A Long Strange Trip – Luv Story Blessing

We stand here to unite these two Virgos that were born within 72 hours of each other

in a celebration of Eternal Marital Bliss that has had many lifetime’s together as Soulmates…

Shawn was born so nice, the heavens were inspired to make you twice 😉

It must have been an intimidating dynamic dueo force when they

both won the state championship their senior year

Having an identical twin offers those with that blessing,

to feel a connection to another soul that allows a deeper sense of

natural compassion and understanding… and it is often within the unspoken word.

This natural sense of compassion and understanding has found fulfillment of Being

to be of service to others, especially the ones that really need it the most,

and both the needy and all of society benefits as we help others transcend poverty

by giving them the help when they need it and a path to integrate into society

as an inspiration for all others struggling along.

Right Livelihood is one of the Buddha’s Noble Eightfold Path…

Your Path is indeed Noble.

~ ~ ~

Julian has indeed experienced quite a “Long Strange Trip”

as blessed with learning the ways of unconditional love

from his expanded family helping him ‘Keep Truckin’ On’.

There is a very spiritual connection within large groups of likeminded Mindful people.

The epic day when Jerry transcended his earthly tour…

and many had to do a wee bit of soul searching…

and what a deeply inspired way to do this soul searching … going to Israel

where he excelled in biblical studies and turned his life around.

No doubt also learning the morals and virtues also outlined in

Buddha’s Noble Eightfold Path…

Again, like Shawn, Your Path is indeed Noble as well.

And wow, Nursing doesn’t get more Intensive than an ICU unit

with a focus in Neurology and Cardiology 😮

It was love at first sight on their hot & spicy first date at the Mexican restaurant…

and they went for a walk ending up in front of an outside fireplace

where they enjoyed more conversation and their first kiss.

It was magical.

It was epic and it was meant to be.

Talking about being ‘connected’…

How about the connection to get Neil Young to play Harvest Moon

The Start of 2020

Our business was doing great, but we still couldn’t afford to buy a house or a condo. Renting in Maui for another 30 years was not an option we wanted to take. Then, Bobbie Jo suggested we buy a sailboat that is comfortable to cruise and live in. By the end of January, we started looking for our new home.

After a long search, we found our dream boat in Mazatlan, Mexico. COVID-19 was not yet a concern when our boat hunt began, but masks were starting to appear at airports by the time we flew to Mazatlan. Originally, we had planned to get the boat ready as fast as possible to cover a full calendar for the busy wedding season. However, it was apparent our business was going to tank amid the pandemic, and the struggle went on until the end of the year.

Luckily, we scored an awesome condo for only $19 a day at Mazatlan. On the 10th day of our stay, we received the news that all harbors will be closed the next Monday morning. We thought we’d be stuck in Mexico longer, but another sailor advised us to leave before sunrise.

We felt the adrenalin of escaping the Mexican harbor master just before the sun rose that faithful day. The seas were rough as waves were building up in the tight channel that led us to the open ocean. We ended up anchored off an adorable little isle just a mile offshore. We enjoyed cruising to many spectacular anchorages and cute villages on our way to Puerto Vallarta, where we would depart for Maui on May 7. On May 30, 2020, we completed our 24-day passage from Mexico to Maui.
