A Miracle Luv Story That Created A Child That Saved Mom’s Life!

Ryan and I met in 2005 while working at our first jobs

at Great America Amusement Park.

We worked the Henna and Airbrush tattoo Kiosk.

I remember i had to train Ryan how to mix Henna.

According to Ryan,

he was first attracted to my accent and my inability

to differentiate nickel from dime hahaā€¦

(I grew up in Singapore and came to America in 2004..

We didn’t have nickel/dimes wording).

I was attracted to his ability to make me laugh

even though we had a language barrier between us.

We dated until 2009 when we both decided to pursue

our individual passions/career-

him with skateboarding,

me with school psychology.

We spoke here and there between the years

but knew we couldn’t just be friends,

so we stayed away to help each other move on.

We both achieved our goals but could never find “the one”

in our separate dating encounters.

In 2013, while walking downtown San Jose,

a guy drove past me and yelled,

“I KNOW YOU”

Low and behold, it was Ryan.

The rest was pretty much history.

We reunited and got back together.

We had planned to get married in 2015,

but unfortunately I was diagnosed with

dysplasia pre cervical cancer

with presence of cysts.

We put our plans on hold and decided to try to have a baby

before I had to go under surgery,

and eventually would not be able to.

We tried,

and unfortunately miscarried our twins.

Right when I agreed to have surgery,

I was then told I was pregnant

šŸ™‚

with our now beautiful daughter.

While pregnant with my daughter,

her immune system started fighting off the dysplasia,

and I’m glad to say i am dysplasia free

šŸ™‚Ā

Sorry that was so long,

But i think our past, present went full circle

to make our wedding today work…

and

the struggles that come with it has made us pretty strong

which is really the glue that made it stick.

The Start of 2020

Our business was doing great, but we still couldnā€™t afford to buy a house or a condo. Renting in Maui for another 30 years was not an option we wanted to take. Then, Bobbie Jo suggested we buy a sailboat that is comfortable to cruise and live in. By the end of January, we started looking for our new home.

After a long search, we found our dream boat in Mazatlan, Mexico. COVID-19 was not yet a concern when our boat hunt began, but masks were starting to appear at airports by the time we flew to Mazatlan. Originally, we had planned to get the boat ready as fast as possible to cover a full calendar for the busy wedding season. However, it was apparent our business was going to tank amid the pandemic, and the struggle went on until the end of the year.

Luckily, we scored an awesome condo for only $19 a day at Mazatlan. On the 10th day of our stay, we received the news that all harbors will be closed the next Monday morning. We thought weā€™d be stuck in Mexico longer, but another sailor advised us to leave before sunrise.

We felt the adrenalin of escaping the Mexican harbor master just before the sun rose that faithful day. The seas were rough as waves were building up in the tight channel that led us to the open ocean. We ended up anchored off an adorable little isle just a mile offshore. We enjoyed cruising to many spectacular anchorages and cute villages on our way to Puerto Vallarta, where we would depart for Maui on May 7. On May 30, 2020, we completed our 24-day passage from Mexico to Maui.
