Women Fighting in the Olympics

I was inspired to write this piece after reading a post

about how absurd it is that some people are turned off by

women fighting in the Olympics…

Yet,

Yet they don’t seem to raise their collective voices about the

horrendous abuse women endure from domestic violence….

At first, I was like…

Yea man, right on.

But

Then, as began to write a comment

 with that perspective…

It dawned on me…

Yea,

fucking right!

That, yes, collectively

we don’t give a shit about a lot of things…

We don’t give a shit about senseless gun violence and

Certainly women getting abused…

And,

I can tell you,

I personally know a gal that became a 10th black belt, then later became a ‘Master’…

just so she could defend herself and their two kids.

She became ready, willing, and able to take this guy out…

But,

Other bad guys got to him first.

He died miserably in the desert sun

after being injected with a lethal dose of bleach.

But,

Not everyone’s story ends with such fairy tale enchanting ways…

Sure,

None of those challenges are…

Flattering for humanity…

But then…

That’s life.

It’s often harsh.

So,

Why would we even want to be in a sport that

it’s sole purpose is to damage someone else?

And,

Know that the training one undertakes to master

many various marshal art forms train one to be

completely capable of taking someone out

in just a very short well placed moves…

One would have to be an enlightened monk

to maintain the equanimity to kill

 without effecting one’s well-being…

But,

Most of us are not enlightened warrior monks.

We will have bad dreams.

And,

When we wake up…

We’ll go through our waking hours with this dark cloud…

But,

To an aspiring warrior monk…

It’s all part of the practice…

And it becomes exciting.

An additive adrenalin rush…

But

Practically …

Those monks will abide in the dark side of humanity…

With the hopes it will force their attention to become so

‘one-pointed’…

That this will help manifest the next higher stage of consciousness…

The “Flow” states…

These ‘Jhana’ states of higher consciousness

will offer the ‘Insights’ through long practice of

post after glow contemplations…

Since,

No thinking is possible during these ‘Insight meditations’…

~

The Buddha stated that one can achieve the ‘final fruition’ of ‘the Path’…

By

any skillful means.

I find that training to be competent in killing

Is a defilement and a detriment to abiding in Loving Kindness.

The final states of consciousness a human can achieve

involves the complete surrender to

love…

Love is…

Ineffable.

Love becomes the ‘objectiveless object of meditation’.

When from your first ‘sit’…

Most focus on their breath.

~

You may deepen that awareness with the breath’s subtle aspects

of the energy that flows into and out of our being…

Prana…

Chi- or Qi

Focus your awareness on the energetic sensations of prana

as it flows through your various chakras…

Have fun with that…

But,

When ‘the Practice’ deepens…

There comes a point when …

It seems natural to drop the effort to stay ‘one pointed’ on the breath…

A

Materialistic, ‘object’…

That keeps the mind from straying…

At a certain point…

This requirement for ‘effort’… dissolves… floats away.

~

You sincerely ‘let go’… surrender… float off…

As if a cosmic raft is effortlessly taking “you”…

Away.

————————

Look…

If you find yourself requiring a lethal marshal arts training…

Then,

You life must already be a nightmare of chaos…

Or

Your challenges require such training…

Then,

“it is… what it is”…

If your calling is fulfilled with such trainings…

Then,

You will likely feel inspired to follow those desires.

But,

For everybody else…

Practice meditation…

Not training to kill.

Use the qi (chi) as an effective ‘object of meditation’…

Not

So you can flatter your ego and break things…

Sooo childishly naïve.

The Start of 2020

Our business was doing great, but we still couldn’t afford to buy a house or a condo. Renting in Maui for another 30 years was not an option we wanted to take. Then, Bobbie Jo suggested we buy a sailboat that is comfortable to cruise and live in. By the end of January, we started looking for our new home.

After a long search, we found our dream boat in Mazatlan, Mexico. COVID-19 was not yet a concern when our boat hunt began, but masks were starting to appear at airports by the time we flew to Mazatlan. Originally, we had planned to get the boat ready as fast as possible to cover a full calendar for the busy wedding season. However, it was apparent our business was going to tank amid the pandemic, and the struggle went on until the end of the year.

Luckily, we scored an awesome condo for only $19 a day at Mazatlan. On the 10th day of our stay, we received the news that all harbors will be closed the next Monday morning. We thought we’d be stuck in Mexico longer, but another sailor advised us to leave before sunrise.

We felt the adrenalin of escaping the Mexican harbor master just before the sun rose that faithful day. The seas were rough as waves were building up in the tight channel that led us to the open ocean. We ended up anchored off an adorable little isle just a mile offshore. We enjoyed cruising to many spectacular anchorages and cute villages on our way to Puerto Vallarta, where we would depart for Maui on May 7. On May 30, 2020, we completed our 24-day passage from Mexico to Maui.
